Jets Place WR Santonio Holmes On Season-Ending IR

Bob Glauber reports that the Jets have officially placed WR Santonio Holmes on the injured reserve list.

Rex Ryan told reporters that Holmes’  Lisfranc injury will require surgery. He’ll make $7.75 million for the remainder of the 2012 season, since the Jets activated the guaranteed figures of his contract during the offseason.

The Jets signed Jason Hill earlier in the day to replace him.

Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports reports that Jets WR Santonio Holmes is dealing with a Lisfranc injury, and there’s a 99 percent chance that he’s done for the season.

This is the same injury that cost Darren McFadden a large portion of the 2011 season, and all reports that have come out late this afternoon mentioned that the belief is that the injury is serious.

The Jets locked him up to a pretty large contract that includes $24 million in guarantees a year ago. Holmes has base salaries of $11 million in 2013, $8.25 million in 2014 and another $6.5 in 2015, but it seems unlikely that he’ll see all of money.

According Manish Mehta there is a growing feeling within the Jets organization that wide receiver Santonio Holmes will be out for the remainder of the season with a foot injury.

The extent of the injury is still not known as the Jets await the test results, but the feeling is it isn’t good. This would be a major blow to the Jets as Holmes is arguably their best offensive player.

The New York Jets are now expecting WR Santonio Holmes to miss multiple weeks because of the recent foot injury that suffered.

“I’m not sure how many weeks he’ll be out, the real extent of the injury,” coach Rex Ryan said, via ESPN New York. “We just know the X-rays were negative. That’s good news. Obviously, it looks doubtful for this week.

The team has yet to release any information regarding the exact diagnosis or even a timetable for his return until Charlotte-based foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson has taken a look at his MRI.

New York is already dealing with injuries to second-round pick Stephen Hill, so Chaz Schilens and Jeremy Kerley are in line for much larger workload this weekend against the Houston Texans.

Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been ruled out for the Week 5’s game against the Houston Texans. Holmes injured his foot during the 49ers 34-0 rout of the Jets. The good news for Holmes was that his X-rays today did come back negative.

The Jets still don’t have a diagnosis for Holmes foot injury. Head coach Rex Ryan ruled out damage to his Achilles’ tendon, but said that “it’s hard to say” if Holmes has a Lisfranc injury. With Holmes out next week, it won’t get any easier for the Jets, as the Texans are arguably the best team in the NFL.
