Santonio Holmes Open To Taking A Pay Cut To Remain With The Jets

Jets WR Santonio Holmes told reporters on Wednesday that he’s willing to take a pay cut to remain with the team next season.

“Anything for the team,” Holmes said, via ESPN New York.

Holmes, 29, has two years and $17.5 million remaining on his contract, but he is an obvious release candidate given that they could free up over $8 million cap space by releasing him, according to Overthecap.com.

“I wouldn’t agree [with a pay cut] because you can’t do anything about injuries and how they occur — this is the first time I’ve been injured in my career — but like I said, sacrifices have to be made,” he said.

Holmes has missed 17 games in the past two seasons due to foot and hamstring injuries. On top of that, he also been a distraction for the team at times, so all signs point to New York moving on and taking the additional cap space.

This season Holmes has played in nine games while contributing 18 receptions for 395 yards and one touchdown.
