Seahawks Brandon Browner Drops His Appeal

Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times is reporting that Seahawks defensive back Brandon Browner has dropped his appeal and will server a four-game suspension for violating the league’s PED policy.

“Browner’s apparent decision to drop his appeal reflects the difficulty in fighting a positive test for a banned substance,” writes O’Neil. “A player is considered responsible for anything in his body, which means the only way to fight a positive test is to argue that the test results themselves were flawed or that the substance was not actually banned (i.e. the player was permitted to use it).”

This is a huge blow to the Seahawks pass defense and their playoff chances, but this could have been a strategic move by the team as Richard Sherman is set to have his appeal hearing on Dec. 14th.  Browner’s decision to drop the appeal means the Seahawks may only be without their top two corners for the final three games of the season, and making Browner eligible for a potential playoff game. It’s not yet known who will fill in for Browner, but it’s believed that Marcus Trufant could slide over from the slot.
