Seahawks “Briefly Considered” S Eric Reid This Offseason

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Seahawks “briefly considered” free agent S Eric Reid this offseason, but apparently decided to not get involved in the market for him.

Reid took his first free agent visit to Cincinnati earlier in the week, but Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported yesterday that he left the meeting without a contract from the Bengals.

Bengals owner Mike Brown reportedly met with Reid during his visit on Monday and questioned him about his decision to kneel during the national anthem. According to Florio’s source, Brown explained that he intends to prohibit this and asked for Reid’s response.

Reid was reportedly caught off guard by the line of questioning and wasn’t willing to make a commitment on the spot, even though he said last month that he was no longer planning to kneel during the anthem.

Interestingly enough, Florio adds that Bengals HC Marvin Lewis asked Reid if he wants to clarify anything that Reid told ownership regarding the anthem, but Reid said he had nothing to clarify or change about what he told Brown.

Reid’s visit with the Bengals wrapped up without an offer being made.

Florio previously reported that Reid would accept a one-year contract from the 49ers for the $5.676 million he made last year.

Reid, 26, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $8,480,736 contract with the 49ers and is currently testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career.

In 2017, Reid appeared in 13 games for the 49ers and recorded 67 tackles, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 30 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
