Seahawks CB Richard Sherman Out For Season With Ruptured Achilles

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll confirmed that CB Richard Sherman suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during the third quarter of Thursday night’s win over the Cardinals and is out for the season, per John Boyle.

Sherman was seen during the telecast telling his teammates that he suffered a torn Achilles on the play, so this shouldn’t as a big surprise.

Sherman showed up on the injury list this week with an Achilles injury and it certainly couldn’t have helped his situation by playing on just four days of rest.

You can expect the Seahawks to place him on injured reserve in the coming days and add someone to their roster.

During the offseason, the Seahawks actually made Sherman available for trade but no deal ever surfaced that was worthy of them parting with one of their best players. It will be interesting to see if Sherman is, once again, available next year.

Sherman, 29, is a former fifth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2011. He’s currently in the fourth years of his five-year, $58.789 million contract that includes $40 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $11.431 million and $11 million over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Sherman has appeared in eight games and recorded 31 tackles, two interceptions and six pass defenses for the Seahawks. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 17 cornerback out of 115 qualifying players.
