Seahawks Cut DE Marcus Smith & CB Elijah Battle, Sign Two

The Seattle Seahawks announced that they’ve released DE Marcus Smith and waived CB Elijah Battle on Friday.

The Seahawks also signed LB Erik Walden and RB Justin Stockton to contracts.

Smith, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Eagles back in 2014. The Eagles declined to pick up his fifth-year option last year and eventually cut him loose during the summer.

Smith signed a one-year contract with the Seahawks soon after and finished out the year in Seattle. He re-signed with the Seahawks this past offseason to a one-year contract worth up to $2.7 million.

In 2017, Smith appeared in 14 games for the Seahawks and recorded 15 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass defense.

Walden, 32, is a former sixth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2008. He lasted just a few months in Dallas before he was waived at the start of the 2008 season and later claimed off of waivers by the Chiefs.

Walden eventually ended up in Miami where he played two seasons before the Packers signed him to a contract in 2010. After three years in Green Bay, Walden departed for a four-year, $16,000,000 contract with the Colts.

In 2017, Walden appeared in all 16 games for the Titans and recorded 36 tackles, four sacks, and a fumble recovery.
