Seahawks DC Dan Quinn Would Have Been Interested In The Browns HC Job

Seahawks DC Dan Quinn told reporters following their Super Bowl win over the Broncos that he would have been interested in the Browns’ head coaching job had they waited to make a hire.

“I certainly would’ve been interested in the job,” Quinn said,” per Mary Kay Cabot. “It’s the Cleveland Browns. It’s a big-time place.

The Browns were reportedly interested in Quinn shortly after they parted ways with HC Rob Chudzinski, and although they did interview Quinn, they elected to hire Mike Pettine a few weeks ago.

It appeared as though the Browns were taking their time with a decision regarding their head coaching position, but it appears as though Pettine did enough to convince them to make a move and not wait for either Quinn or Broncos OC Adam Gase who was also reportedly at the top of their wishlist.

This clearly works to the benefit of the Seahawks as they retain one of the better defensive coordinators in the league for at least one more season. Quinn figures to be one of the top coaching candidates in 2015.

  1. So typical of the Browns’ FO to wait weeks to fill their head coaching vacancy, but not be willing to wait 2 more weeks to grab the guy who just led his team to the NFL championship. Seattle was majorly impressive on defense tonight. Quinn’s efforts were spectacularly on display. Instead they chose a guy from a losing team. And the beat goes on…

    • I like what Quinn said because I didn’t want a coach that was “afraid” to take the job in Cleveland. So now we know about 2 coaches who are not afraid of the job. It must not be as bad as all the hype.

I’m thinking like you because it seems to me like the new FO may be motivated to tear everything down and rebuild up from scratch, but they are managing the public relations as best they can to avoid killing off fan support. This may actually be a competent plan for the long term as compared to the previous ownership. I heard Tony reminding us that the Browns probably would have traded Josh Gordon if they could get their price. And now we know they didn’t want Quinn, either.

I think it looks as if changes are coming as the organization is rebuilt into a different animal at the skeleton. Getting Quinn to get into the playoffs next year must not be the immediate concern, but rather a complete overhaul of some sort.

      • My huge fear is the FO just doesn’t know what the hell they’re doing. Last year’s draft was a bust. The Chud and Turner hires were also. Not convinced the $$$ they spent in FA last year was well spent either. That’s not a track record of achievement, as opposed to the record Quinn now has. That guy’s super impressive!

Pettine seems like a no nonsense type of guy. Shanahan has a good record as an OC. I’m mildly optimistic with both. But will the Stooges control and blow the draft and Free Agency like they did last year? Don’t tell us what to do egotism? That’s the huge question.

There’s a reason Hollywood’s making a movie about the bumbling Browns, and it’s why many are so disgusted with this team.
