Seahawks DE Michael Bennett Is Undergoing Knee Surgery, Out 2-3 Weeks

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Seahawks DL Michael Bennett is set to undergo surgery on his knee this week. According to Rapoport, the surgery will likely take place on Monday and will repair a cartilage issue he’s dealing with.

The expectation is that Bennett will likely miss the next 2-3 weeks of the season.

Even with Bennett undergoing knee surgery, Rapoport says that his value his clear to Seattle and the two sides have been in talks regarding a contract extension.

Bennett, 30, signed four-year, $32 million contract that included $16 million guaranteed with the Seahawks a few years ago. He still has another two years remaining on his contract to go along with base salaries of $4 million (2016), and $6 million (2017).

In 2016, Bennett has appeared in six games for the Seahawks and recorded 24 tackles and three sacks. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 edge defender out 102 qualifying players.
