Seahawks Discussing New Contract With Marshawn Lynch

Eric Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune reports that the Seahawks have started “preliminary discussions” with RB Marshawn Lynch regarding a new contract.

Interestingly enough, Lynch’s contract will void after the 2011 because he’s already met the minimum playing requirements that were put into in his previous deal. At only 25 years old, Lynch would certainly have some interest on the open market but not enough for him to break off talks right now with any interested team like the Seahawks.

As of now the team ranks #28 in rushing offense this season while Lynch is averaging less than three yards per carry. This should have an impact on the current negotiations. If Seattle can come to a reasonable agreement it could allow them to address some of the teams larger needs without losing their best running back.
