Seahawks Haven’t Closed The Door On Signing DE Jared Allen

Seahawks GM John Schneider told reporters on Tuesday that they haven’t closed the door on possibly signing veteran DE Jared Allen at some point.

“I don’t think the door’s closed by any stretch of the imagination,” Schneider said, via NFL.com.

Allen met with the Seahawks and Cowboys last week, but was prepared to take the weekend to mull over his options.

Schneider mentioned that cap space remains an issue for them, but they reportedly had a “great visit” with Allen and his family.

We’re limited in what we can do in terms of our cap space and what we want to do with our young football team, and he has a limit, too, in terms of what he can do,” Schneider said. “There just has to be a balance. We had a great visit, he’s a great guy, has a great family.”

Allen, 31, has been an extremely productive player during his time in Minnesota, and although his 2013 season wasn’t as good as years past, he still manged to record 11.5 sacks, 52 tackles and two forced fumbles.

Pro Football Focus has Allen rated as the No. 34 among qualifying 4-3 defensive ends. We have although listed as the No. 1 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

    • Their ratings as based on per play performance, so consistency really factors heavily into a players rating. Allen played through injury, but still produced 11.5 which is pretty impressive. PFF is just one of a number of indicators regarding player’s true performance.
