Jaguars Still The Team To Watch For TE Julius Thomas, But Seahawks Are Lingering

Update:

According to Charles Robinson, the Jaguars are still the team to watch for free agent TE Julius Thomas, but the Seahawks remain in the mix for him as well.

  • Robinson adds that Thomas to the Jaguars isn’t done just yet.

Jason Cole, citing two sources, is reporting that free agent TE Julius Thomas is “just about done/signed” in Jacksonville.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports updates the market for Broncos free agent TE Julius Thomas by mentioning that the Seahawks and Jaguars remain options for him.

  • Pro Football Talk mentioned this past week that the Seahawks could emerge as a viable option for Thomas.
  • According to Ian Rapoport, the Raiders, Jaguars, and Seahawks could all be landing spots for him.
  • Although, Adam Caplan reported last night that the Raiders aren’t showing as much interest in Thomas as many thought they would.

Last night, Robinson reported that Thomas will be a “major priority” for the Jaguars if they miss out on some of the top free agents like DT Ndamukong Suh and RB DeMarco Murray.

On top of that, the Jaguars have the available cap space that could make signing Thomas very difficult for the Seahawks.

Last year, reports mentioned that the Seahawks checked in with the Broncos about the availability of Thomas before the trade deadline, and have since released TE Zach Miller, so it will be interesting to see if they ramp up efforts to get Thomas under contract.

Thomas, 26, caught 43 passes for 489 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns over the course of 13 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 13 tight end in the league out of 67 qualifying players.

We have Thomas listed as the No. 9 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
