Seahawks Place Sidney Rice On Season-Ending IR, Could Be Done In Seattle

Update:

Seahawks announced that have placed WR Sidney Rice on season-ending injured reserve with a torn ACL.

Pro Football Talk first reported that WR Sidney Rice has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and will subsequently miss the remainder of the season.

Since signing a five-year contract worth $41 million that included $18.5 million guaranteedRice posted totals of 97 receptions, 1463 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns over the course of 33 games with the Seahawks.

Rice, 27, is owed a non-guaranteed base salary of $8.5 million in 2014, which means he could be a cap casualty this offseason.

  • Jason La Canfora mentions that releasing Rice would come with a $2.4 million cap hit for Seattle.
  • Tom Pelissero reports that Rice only suffered damage to his ACL, which should help his recovery.
  • Seattle will save $7.3 million by releasing him, according to Overthecap.com.

Rice has dealt with a myriad of injuries over the course of his NFL career, so this recent knee injury is hardly the type of thing that prospective teams will want to pay for, assuming of course that he is released at some point.

Percy Harvin‘s return will certainly be a welcomed addition to the Seahawks passing offense now that they are without one of their starting receivers for the remainder of the season.
