Seahawks Place DE Chris Clemons On Retired List, Sign Two

The Seattle Seahawks announced Thursday that they’ve placed DE Chris Clemons on reserve/retired list and signed S Keenan Lambert and RB Cameron Marshall to contracts.

  • The Seahawks also waived LS Drew Ferris.

Clemons somewhat surprisingly informed the Seahawks last week of his plans to retire from the NFL.

This move is just a formality that will allow the Seahawks to own his rights in the event he decides to unretire at some point.

Clemons, 34, originally signed on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia back in 2004. After brief stints with the Raiders and Eagles, he was traded to the Seahawks during the 2010 season.

After four years in Seattle, Clemons signed a four-year, $17.5 million contract with the Jaguars as a free agent. However, he was unfortunately released by Jacksonville back in March. The Seahawks later elected to bring Clemons back on a one-year, $1.5 million contract that included a $150,000 signing bonus.

Over the course of his 13-year NFL career, Clemons recorded 200 tackles, 69 sacks, 20 forced fumbles, seven recoveries, 25 pass defenses and two defensive touchdowns.

Lambert, 24, wound up signing on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Norfolk State in May of last year. He was, unfortunately, unable to make Seattle’s 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but was later claimed off of waivers by the Raiders.

The Raiders later waived Lambert before signing him to their practice squad.

In 2015, Lambert was active for five games, but did not record a single statistic.
