Seahawks Rookie Russell Wilson Wins The Starting QB Job

The Seattle Seahawks have announced that third-round pick Russell Wilson will be the team’s starting quarterback this season.

Following Friday night’s game, it became quite apparent that Wilson provided an element to the team’s offense that neither Matt Flynn nor Tarvaris Jackson did. Wilson is currently 35-of-52, for 464 yards to go along with five touchdowns and only a single interception.

Wilson has continued to perform at the same level that he did at Wisconsin last season, despite the fact that he’s now playing in the NFL. It was noted that Wilson has first-round talent, but the fact that he was just a few inches short of the “model” quarterback, forced him down draft boards. It’s almost laughable to think about in hindsight.

The next question is what’s next for Flynn. He recently signed a three-year deal worth $19 million, which includes $10 million guaranteed. The way the contract is structured, Seattle could get out of the deal following the 2013 season, but he figures to be on their roster for the time being.
