Seahawks WR Ricardo Lockette Retiring From NFL

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Seahawks WR Ricardo Lockette will announce his retirement from the NFL in a press conference that has been scheduled Thursday afternoon.

  • According to Ed Werder, Lockette is unable to rotate his head after the neck injury he sustained, so retirement is really his only option.

Lockette, unfortunate, suffered a very serious neck injury a few season ago that nearly killed him, so there were obvious concerns about his health moving forward.

In a previous interview, Lockette seemed at peace with the idea that he may never return to the NFL.

“It’s a game,” Lockette told “The Justin and Gee Show”, via Seattle Post-Intelligencer. “It’s what we signed up for and that’s what we do. You accept the consequences that come with it. I enjoyed my career if I never play again, and if I do play again, then I’ll come back with the same fire.

Lockette, 29, signed on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2011. He had brief stints with the 49ers and Bears before returning to the Seahawks during the 2013 season.

Over the course of his five-year NFL career, Lockette recorded 22 receptions for 451 yards receiving and four touchdowns for the Seahawks.
