Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the Saints have shown “strong interest” in re-signing veteran G Jahri Evans to a contract.

Saints HC Sean Payton said Wednesday that re-signing veteran G Jahri Evans is a “realistic possibility,” per Josh Katzenstein.

Payton did, however, add that they are looking at all of their available options, and added that Evans’ preseason with the Seahawks as “pretty good.

On Tuesday, the Saints brought Evans in for a visit and hosted 14 players for tryouts, so they’re clearly casting a wide net right before the start of the season.

Evans, 32, was entering the second year of his three-year, $18 million contract that included $9.5 million guaranteed when the Saints cut him in a move that cleared $1.1 million in available cap space while creating $7.1 million in dead money.

However, he was waived as they cut their roster down to the roster limit last week.

In 2015, Evans appeared in 11 games for the Saints. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 38 guard out of 82 qualifying players.
