Seattle A Landing Spot For DE Dwight Freeney?

John Clayton mentioned that the Seattle Seahawks could be a great fit for Colts DE Dwight Freeney.

“I don’t know at this stage if anyone knows what kind of market Dwight Freeney has. He didn’t have a great season necessarily in the 3-4 defense, and he’s getting a little bit older,” Clayton said, via ESPN 710 in Seattle. “But boy, when you talk about a great defensive end who can rush the passer, fit in a 4-3, this fits into that category.”

Freeney, 33, moved to outside linebacker for the Colts last season and saw his sack total drop from eight in 2011, to just five this year. Seattle could use some additional help at defensive end now that Chris Clemens will be coming off of a torn left ACL and meniscus.

“If you’re John Schneider and you’re Pete Carroll, you call Dwight and say, ‘Listen, if you’re going to get big money in free agency, God love you, we support you 100 ways. But if indeed you struggle a little bit and need to take a little bit of a flier on a team, look at this team,” Clayton said.

We have Freeney listed as the No. 50 best available free agent in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

  1. I think it would be a great idea on a one-year deal. He would be looked at to fill the roll that that Seahawks hoped Jason Jones was going to fill last year.
