Update:

Mary Kay Cabot reports that a league source has informed the Cleveland Plain Dealer that the Browns have contacted the agent of free agent LB Dannell Ellerbe.

A previous report indicated that the Ellerbe could be targeting as much as $6 million annually in his next contract.

We have him listed as the No. 26 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

Jim Corbett of USA Today reports that there’s already been “several” inquires made regarding free agent ILB Dannell Ellerbe.

“There’s nothing to report right now,” said Ellerbe’s agent Hadley Englehard. “… I expect things to pick up at the beginning of the week as we approach Tuesday. That’s where we are. I’ve had dialogue with teams. There were several. One team in particular called me at 12:01.”

Englehard added that the Ravens haven’t made his client an offer yet.

Ellerbe is reportedly atop the Ravens list of offseason priorities. Baltimore has managed to create some cap space in recent weeks in the hopes of retaining Ellerbe specifically, but the closer he gets to free agency, the harder it’s going to be to persuade him to return.
