Several Teams In Trade Market For Tight Ends, Jaguars A Potential Partner?

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that there are several teams in the trade market for tight end help right now, and talks are expected to pick up in the coming weeks.

According to La Canfora, one team worth keeping an eye on who could have some tight ends available is the Jacksonville Jaguars.

As of now, the Jaguars tight end position consists of Julius Thomas, Marcedes Lewis, Ben Koyack, Braedon Bowman, Nic Jacobs and Neal Sterling.

La Canfora doesn’t say which of these tight ends could be available. However, reports from last year mentioned Lewis as a potential trade candidate, even though the deadline came and went with him remaining with the Jaguars.

There’s some question if the Jaguars would really want to part with a reliable player for them like Lewis has been.

Lewis, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2006. Jacksonville re-signed Lewis to a three-year, $12 million contract that included $5 million guaranteed this past March.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Lewis would free up $3.5 million in available cap space while creating $500,000 in dead money.

In 2015, Lewis appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars and recorded 16 receptions for 226 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 37 tight end out of 67 qualifying players.
