Shaun Phillips An Option For The Cardinals?

Mike Jurecki of XTRA Phoenix reports that Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips could be interested in signing with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals are sticking with their 3-4 scheme next year despite adding Todd Bowles as defensive coordinator. Phillips figures to be a decent bargain on the open market and could provide some depth at a fairly important position.

Phillips, 31, will be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks and has been one of the most consistent players since arriving in San Diego back in 2006. Phillips is coming off a season that included 9.5 sacks and two forced fumbles while playing in all 16 games. He has recorded at least 7 sacks in seven of his nine years in the league

The Chargers implemented a strong rotation this season keeping Phillips, Jarret Johnson, Melvin Ingram, Antwan Barnes, and Larry English in and out of games with the hope of them remaining fresh, but it would make sense to see San Diego give Johnson and Ingram more playing time given that they’ve invested a lot in the two of them.

We have Phillips listed as the No. 88 best available player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
