Redskins Signing CB Josh Norman To A Five-Year, $75M Deal

The Washington Redskins have agreed to terms with CB Josh Norman according to Rand Getlin of NFL Media.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Norman receives a five-year contract worth $75 million from the Redskins to go along with $50 million guaranteed.
  • According to Mike Garafolo, Norman receives $36.5m fully guaranteed over the first two years. Norman will make: $20M (2016), $37M (2017), $51M (2018), $62.5M (2019), and $75M (2020).

Norman is now the highest paid cornerback in the NFL.

The Redskins managed to fend off a late push from the Saints and HC Sean Payton and close the deal with Norman. Odds favored the Redskins, seeing as they actually had him at their facility today and had a much better cap situation than the Saints.

The 49ers, Buccaneers, Jaguars, and Titans all showed some level of interest in him.

Norman, 28, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2012. After playing out the final year of his four-year, $2,299,000 rookie contract, Carolina elect to use their franchise tag on him over a month ago.

However, the Panthers surprisingly rescinded their offer on Wednesday, making him an unrestricted free agent.

In 2015, Norman appeared in all 16 games for the Panthers and recorded 56 tackles, four interceptions with two being returned for touchdowns, three forced fumbles, two recoveries, and 18 pass defenses for the Panthers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6 cornerback out of 118 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.
