Six Players Eligible For 2016 NFL Supplemental Draft

The 2016 NFL Supplemental Draft will be held at 1pm EST on Thursday, July 14.

This year’s draft pool includes six eligible prospects for teams to consider using a 2017 draft pick on.

These six players include:

  • Purdue DT Ra’Zahn Howard
  • Ole Miss CB Tee Shepard
  • Virginia Tech LS Eddie D’Antuono
  • Sam Houston State RB Jalen Overstreet
  • University of Calgary WR Rashaun Simonise
  • Concordia DE Cameron Walton

It’s rare for anyone to be selected in a Supplemental draft. However, Last year, the Rams elected to use a fifth-round pick on OT Isaiah Battle, which was the first time a player had been taken since the Browns drafted WR Josh Gordon back in 2012.

Some have said that a few teams viewed Howard as a draftable player, who could come off the board in round 5-7. Although, an NFL GM told Jason Cole of B/R that Howard was “out of shape” and “undraftable” during his recent Pro Day for teams. It’s worth mentioning that the Giants were reportedly among those to attend his workout.

Overstreet recently had his felony charge for credit card abuse recently dropped, so that’s good news for his chances of being selected.

NFL Draft Diamonds reported that six NFL teams were in attendance for Simonise’s recent workout including: the Rams, Cardinals, Packers, Colts, Jets, and Redskins. Beyond that, the Bengals were among the teams that had shown some level of interest in him.

Howard played three seasons at Purdue, but elected to enter the 2016 supplemental draft due to academic reasons, according to Adam Schefter. During his college career, Howard recorded 47 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss including three sacks, a fumble recovery and four pass defenses.

Overstreet rushed for 1,652 yards on 282 carries (5.9 YPC) to go along with 16 touchdowns and 194  yards receiving over the course of three years at Sam Houston State.

Simonise offers plenty of size at 6’5, which is something he believes could help in the NFL. In 2015, Simonise recorded 1,079 receiving yards on 51 catches for the University of Calgary.
