SMU RB Traylon Shead & New Mexico WR Chase Clayton Expected To Enter Supplemental Draft

According to Dane Brugler of CBS Sports, it “sounds” like SMU RB Traylon Shead will make himself eligible for the 2014 Supplemental Draft.

  • Burgler adds that New Mexico WR Chase Clayton is another player who could be available as well.

It’s worth mentioning that this news basically reiterates a report from Dan Pompei of the Bleacher Report.

  • Pompei reported last week that Shead and Clayton are the only two players that seem to be leaning towards entering the Supplemental Draft.
  • Pompei mentioned that this year’s Supplemental Draft is shaping up to be a “dud.”

Sources tell Pompei that they are “dubious” about Clayton’s chance of being drafted. However, one scout did mention that  is Clayton could potentially be a late-round pick “if he has a great workout.”

Clayton was a factor in the return game two season ago when he totaled 608 yards and two touchdowns on 20 kick returns. Unfortunately for him, he suffered a knee injury in the first game of the season last year and subsequently missed the remainder of the team’s games.

Shead hasn’t been all that productive at SMU, even though he was highly regarded coming out of high school. Scouts who have spoken to Pompei mentioned that Shead is unlikely to be drafted, but could get a training camp invite at some point.

Last year, he ram for 197 yards on 51 carries and scored three touchdowns.
