Some Browns’ Players Want Johnny Manziel To Start Over Josh McCown

According to a report from TMZ, several Browns’ players want Johnny Manziel to start at quarterback, believe it’s “f**ked up” he’s the backup right now.

TMZ spoke with three starting players on the Browns offense, and all of them said that they would prefer to have Manziel under center instead of Josh McCown.

I love both Johnny and Josh but its f**ked up when you have Johnny come in and play well and has proven to the team that he is the right person for the job,” said one Browns’ player. “It’s frustrating to him and us when you sit a player down when he is playing well. Coach has got to understand you are messing up the chemistry and timing with players and its f**ked up.”

“The team plays better when [Manziel] is in the game. I play better when he plays,” a separate Browns’ player added. “You can’t get better unless you play. We won when he played and coach has got to trust him like he trusts Josh.

A third Browns’ player pointed to the pressure that Manziel puts on opposing defenses as the reason he should be starting over McCown.

“When Johnny in the game it puts the defense on edge,” said the player. “He doesn’t just sit in the pocket, he makes plays. Coach has got to make the change now.

McCown wound up sustained a hand injury during Sunday’s loss to the Raiders. However, it sounds like the injury isn’t anything major and HC Mike Pettine has said that McCown will remain the team’s starter.

This season, McCown has thrown for 390 yards while completing 57.9 percent of his passes to go along with two touchdowns and an interception.

Manziel, on the other hand, has thrown for 354 yards while completing 53.9 percent of his passes to go along with three touchdowns and an interception.
