Some Potential Options For RB Shonn Greene

ESPN’s Bill Williamson examines some potential options for impending free agent Shonn Greene.

It’s worth noting that Williamson covers the AFC West, which is why he lists all four the Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs and Raiders as potential landing spots, but all of them could use help in the ground-game.

Broncos:

Williamson points to the fact that Willis McGahee will be 31 and coming off of knee injury while both Knowshon Moreno and Ronnie Hillman are question marks to some degree.

It will be up to Denver to decide it wants to bring in an established veteran. If so, Greene could fit,” writes Williamson.

Chargers:

Williamson writes that “this fit makes sense.” San Diego could use a solid compliment to Ryan Mathews after they were unable to find an adequate replacement for Mike Tolbert. This could be the best fit for Greene.

Chiefs:

Greene could fill the role that they were hoping Peyton Hillis would for them last year. Kansas City could use another compliment to Jamaal Charles and there’s a chance Greene could be a bit of a bargain.

Raiders:

The Raiders are still trying to get their financial situation under control. Oakland needs a better compliment to Darren McFadden and Williamson points out that Tony Sparano, the Raiders new offensive line coach, spent time with Greene last year.

It’s really going to boil down to Greene’s asking price. The market for veteran running backs has been terrible the last two years, so it’s not as though Greene will be able to command $20 million guaranteed. On top of that, there are some legitimate concerns about his overall game. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 46 best running back out of 59 qualifying players.

We have Greene listed as the No. 98 best available player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
