Some RB Targets For The Rams

St Louis Rams GM Billy Devaney mentioned a few months back that the team intends to get Steven Jackson some help at the running back position. ESPN’s John Clayton discussed the idea during a recent mailbag and mentioned a few specific options for the Rams.

I would have to think they are going to be buyers in free agency for a backup running back. My thought would be to add Darren Sproles. He could help with the return game and add needed explosion to the backfield. I don’t think they need to find the same style of runner as Steven Jackson. But a Jackson-Sproles combo would be fun to watch. The Rams clearly have to add more run-after-the-catch ability to their offense. They might also have to consider Reggie Bush if he is released.”

Darren Sproles has been a popular name over the last few months and has been linked to other teams like the Dolphins and the Steelers. Clayton makes a good point in that Sproles adds a different dynamic to their offense which something that they have sorely needed in recent years. St Louis has already brought in Josh McDaniels to expand their offensive attack and the addition of Sproles would give them a great weapon out of the backfield.

Reggie Bush would also make some sense but they should hold off on throwing money at him until they know what the asking price for Sproles is.

Yesterday there were reports that the Rams are a possible option for Tiki Barber but that seems like a long shot at this point.
