Some Shaun Ellis Rumors

Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Jets will try to retain veteran DT Shaun Ellis. The Jets have a number key free agents this year it’s hard to say where Ellis sits on their priority list but he’ll be a cost efficient player in comparison to Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Antonio Cromartie. Cimini mentions that if the Jets end up letting Ellis go, the New England Patriots could be a team to watch.

Dan Graziano of ESPN mentions that the Washington Redskins could have some interest in him.

Ellis had a brilliant playoff performance for the Jets and, even at age 33, likely has something to contribute for the short term. Might be a real nice fit in Washington with those younger guys,” writes Graziano.

Considering that Ellis is in the final stage of his career and the fact that players love Rex Ryan, I doubt he would sign on with a team that’s as much of a longshot to win the Super Bowl as the Redskins are when he could stay in system that he’s already familiar with and compete for a title. The Jets make the most sense but if they choose to pass on Ellis, New England would give him another shot at a title.
