Stanford’s TE Zach Ertz An Option For The 49ers At No. 31?

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area writes that “it would not be shocking” for San Francisco to use their No. 31 overall pick on TE Zach Ertz out of Stanford.

Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman are both former Stanford coaches, so they’re plenty familiar with Ertz.

The 49ers still need to decide whether or not TE Delanie Walker will be retained. Should he depart via free agency, it could open a spot for Ertz behind Vernon Davis. Ertz is considered to be a great threat as a receiver, but lacks great run blocking skills.

Ertz has been competing with Notre Dame’s Tyler Eifert to be the best available TE in the draft this year. Both had outstanding 2012 seasons at their respective schools. Ertz caught 69 passes for 898 yards and 6 touchdowns, where as Eifert caught 50 passes for 685 for 4 touchdowns.
