Steelers Sticking With K Chris Boswell, Despite Trying Out Kickers

Update:

Jeremy Fowler reports that the Steelers are sticking with K Chris Boswell for Sunday’s game against the Patriots.

The Steelers tried out kickers on Wednesday and kept Kai Forbath in Pittsburgh overnight, but notified him that they’re standing pat after Boswell had a good practice on Thursday.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Steelers are bringing in their former kicker Shaun Suisham to work with K Chris Boswell.

The Steelers worked out free agent kickers Kai Forbath and Matt McCrane on Wednesday and Forbath was impressive enough that Pittsburgh reportedly had him on standby.

However, this implies that Pittsburgh plans to stick with Bowell for the time being.

Boswell, 27, originally signed on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Rice back in 2014. He was among Houston’s final roster cuts coming out of the preseason and signed on to their practice squad.

The Texans wound up cutting him after a week and he eventually signed a futures contract with the Giants. He was, again, among the team’s final roster cuts but was signed and waived again shortly after.

The Steelers signed him to a two-year deal in 2015 and he brought him back on a futures contract the following year. Pittsburgh placed the second-round restricted tender on Boswell during the offseason only to agree to a four-year extension worth just under $20 million.

In 2018, Boswell has appeared in 13 games for the Steelers and converted 10 of 16 field goal attempts (62.5 percent) to go along with 39 of 44 extra point tries (88.6 percent).
