Steelers First-Round Pick G David DeCastro Finding Things Tough In The NFL

Pittsburgh will still start rookie David DeCastro at right guard during Thursday’s preseason opener, per Mark Kaboly.

Mike Bires of the Beaver County Times writes that Steelers first-round pick G David DeCastro “hasn’t exactly been a camp sensation.”

While Bires admits that it “might be a reach to say he’s struggling,” DeCastro seems to be having some issues related to the physicality of the NFL. He’s yet to pass Ramon Foster on the depth, which isn’t exactly a sign of progress, considering that the Steelers drafted him to be an impact player. NFL scouts used words like “nasty” and mentioned that he had “violent hands,” which seemed to suggest that he was going to be a physical force in the league, but I guess those aspects can be overblown.
