Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers actually had an agreement in place with then Bills RB Fred Jackson on a one-year contract.
According to La Canfora, Bills GM Doug Whaley informed Jackson that he was going to be released after they acquired RB LeSean McCoy in a trade with the Eagles.
The Steelers and Patriots reportedly showed interest in Jackson almost immediately, and scheduled visits with the veteran running back.
However, the Bills elected to reverse course and later told Jackson that it was decided that the running back was too important to the team and community to let go.
This, of course, made it seem like he wasn’t going to be with the team for the start of the season, but the Bills ultimately cut him loose as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players last week.
Jackson wasted no time setting up a meeting with the Seahawks, which eventually led to an agreement between the two parties.
The Seahawks now have Jackson in place as their No. 2 running back behind Marshawn Lynch and the Steelers have already got a decent game out of DeAngelo Williams while Le’Veon Bell is out.
