Steelers ILB Lawrence Timmons Willing To Rework Contract To Remain In Pittsburgh Long-Term

Steelers Pro Bowl ILB Lawrence Timmons said that he’s open to reworking his contract so that he can retire as a member of the franchise.

Timmons specifically mentioned his family and the fact that they have a house in Pittsburgh as other reasons why he would like remain with the Steelers long-term.

“I’ve been here for nine years, I’ve got a house here, I’d like to keep that house,” said Timmons, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. “I’ve got a family here that loves it.

Timmons, 29, still has another two years on his six-year, $50 million contract that included $11 million guaranteed. He’ll make base salaries of $7.5 million and $8.75 million over the next two years.

However, he carries cap figures of $12.6 million in 2015 and $11.8 million in 2016, which are large enough that the team may considering trying to find ways to lower them.

In 2014, appeared in all 16 games and recorded 133 tackles, two sacks, and a pass defense for the Steelers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 11 inside linebacker out of 60 qualifying players.
