Steelers Injury Updates: Ike Taylor, Ryan Shazier, Jarvis Jones

Update:

Jason La Canfora reports that Steelers veteran CB Ike Taylor is wrapping up surgery on his broken forearm and could be candidate for injured reserve with the designation to return.

  • La Canfora expects rookie LB Ryan Shazier to be out a few weeks.

The fact that Taylor could return this season is a little surprising given how bad the injury looked, but I’m sure the Steelers would be happy to have him back at some point.

Taylor, 34, is in the final year of his contract and will make $2.75 million for the upcoming season. Last year, Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 98 cornerback out of 110 qualifying players, which was due to a particularly low pass coverage score.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has the latest regarding a number of injuries suffered by their defensive unit last night.

According to Schefter, rookie LB Ryan Shazier has sprained a MCL and will undergo an MRI on Monday. Shazier suffered the injury when a teammate rolled back into his knee, which forced his knee to flex inward.

This is perhaps the least worrisome of the three major injuries Pittsburgh’s defense sustained. An MCL sprain could keep Shazier out a few weeks, but this will obviously come down to the MRI.

Schefter mentions that OLB Jarvis Jones will most likely undergoing wrist surgery that will keep him sidelined indefinitely. Jones has shown signs of being a solid edge rusher and even caused a fumble by knocking into Cam Newton‘s arm from behind last night.

It was pretty clear from watching the game that veteran CB Ike Taylor broke his arm. The Steelers’ medical staff put an air cast on his arm while he was still on the field.

There is a chance that this could end Taylor’s season and possibly his career, depending on the level of interest he finds on the open market.

We’ll have more updates regarding these players as the news is available.
