Steelers Interested In Bringing Back S J.J. Wilcox

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Steelers have informed veteran S J.J. Wilcox that they’re their interest in him returning for the 2018 season and he’s expected to have a chance to play more snaps and possibly start.

A report from earlier in the day mentioned that Pittsburgh is expected to release veteran S Mike Mitchell next week.

Wilcox previously came up as a player who could be on the chopping block this offseason. However, it sounds like Pittsburgh is open to exploring all of their options with Wilcox including a potential renegotiated salary.

Wilcox, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2013. He has played out his four-year, $2,811,068 contract with the Cowboys before signing a two-contract with the Buccaneers worth up to $8.5 million.

The Buccaneers traded him to the Steelers at the start of the 2017 season for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Wilcox stands to make a base salary of $3.125 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Wilcox appeared in 12 games for the Steelers and recorded 12 tackles, one interception and a pass defense.

We’ll have more regarding Wilcox as the news is available.
