According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are still interested in re-signing veteran DE Brett Keisel to a one-year, minimum-salary contract.
Bouchette adds that Keisel has been “balking at taking the minimum money,” which is most likely the reason he’s still a free agent at this point in the year.
A minimum salary contract for a top-tiered veteran would pay him $1 million for the 2014 season.
Pittsburgh added some defensive line depth when they selected Stephon Tuitt in the second-round of this year’s NFL Draft.
Keisel, 35, has spent all of his 11 years of his NFL career with the Steelers. In 2013, Keisel accumulated four sacks and 29 tackles over the course of 12 games.
Pro Football Focus has Keisel rated as the No. 31 overall defensive end in a 3-4 system last year, but also an above-average run-defender, which could allow him to see snaps in early downs.
