Steelers Lock Up WR Antonio Brown

Pro Football Talk reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed WR Antonio Brown to five-year deal worth $42.5 million. Brown receives an $8.5M signing bonus as part of the contract.

This is a definitely a surprise, considering that there’s been no mention of deal in the recent weeks, but you could easily assume that the breakdown in talks regarding a long-term extension for WR Mike Wallace fueled the team’s approach towards Brown. Wallace is said to be seeking a monster contract that’s close to that of Larry Fitzgerald. The two sides recently broke off discussions, which was reportedly Wallace’s own decision. Brown’s the big winner here and there’s certainly an argument that he’s the better long-term investment.

We had Brown listed as the No. 9 best available free agent in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
