Steelers Could Lose A Draft Pick Following HC Mike Tomlin’s Sideline Incident

Update:

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports (per Mike Garafolo) reports that the NFL is not considering a draft pick penalty for the Steelers.

  • Glazer adds that the league is not even discussing the idea.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the NFL is expected to consider a six-figure fine for both the Steelers organization and HC Mike Tomlin following the recent sideline incident that occurred on Thanksgiving night.

  • Schefter adds that Tomlin is not expected to be suspended, however.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out that the NFL fined the Jets $100,000 for a sideline incident a few years ago, so it appears as though they could use this a precedent for the Tomlin-situation.

Ian Rapoport reports that the NFL is considering a big fine for both the Steelers and HC Mike Tomlin following the recent sideline incident that interfered with Ravens KR Jacoby Jones.

  • Rapoport adds that the league is also considering taking away a draft pick as well.

Tomlin was recently added to the NFL competition committee, which will likely factor into the league’s final decision regarding this matter. So far, the NFL has yet to review the situation, but a ruling is expected early next week.

This looks like a situation in which the league will try to set a precedent regarding coaches interfering with the game, especially when they hold an important position on the competition committee.

Taking away a draft pick from the Steelers would be a huge loss given that they are still an old team that is in need of some young talent.

We’ll have more regarding this situation as the news is available.
