Steelers Have No Interest In CB Darrelle Revis, Could Sit Out Season If Offered Less Than $8M

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the Steelers aren’t interested in signing veteran CB Darrelle Revis to a contract.

Revis is from Pittsburgh and the Steelers are expected to be in the market for cornerback help. However, there doesn’t appear to be a match with his hometown team.

Florio points out that if a team were to offer Revis less than $6 million for the 2017 season, there wouldn’t be much of an incentive for him to play, considering that he’s owed $6 million from the Jets.

According to Florio, the current thinking among those familiar with Revis’ situation is that he’s likely to pass on anything less than $8 million for the 2016 season and possibly sit out the season.

Revis, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2007. He was entering the third year of his five-year, $70 million contract that includes $39 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $13 million for the 2017 season when he was released by the Jets.

It’s worth mentioning that signing him to a contract won’t impact a team’s compensatory picks, considering that he was released.

In 2016, Revis appeared in 15 games for the Jets and recorded 53 tackles, one interception and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 66 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.
