Steelers Pick Up Over $3M Of Cap Room By Reworking DE Cameron Heyward’s Deal

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Steelers have restructured DE Cameron Heyward’s contract on Wednesday and in turn created over $3 million of cap space.

This could be further indication that Pittsburgh is close to signing DL Stephon Tuitt to a long-term extension.

Heyward, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Steelers back in 2011. He’s currently in the third year of his six-year, $59.2 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $5 million and $9 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2016, Cameron appeared in seven games for the Steelers and recorded 21 tackles, three sacks, a fumble recovery and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 38 interior defender out of 120 qualifying players.
