Steelers Pick Up G David DeCastro’s Fifth-Year Option

Albert Breer of NFL Media reports that the Steelers have picked up the fifth-year option on G David DeCastro.

DeCastro becomes the second player to have his fifth-year option exercised after Chargers OLB Melvin Ingram.

Pittsburgh will pay DeCastro an average of the third through 25th highest paid guards in the league last year. It’s worth mentioning that this option is guaranteed for injury only and won’t prevent the Steelers from working out a long-term extension in the next year.

DeCastro, 25, had one year remaining on his four-year, $7.813 million rookie contract that included a $4.122 million signing bonus. He stands to make a base salary of $1,030,531 for the 2015 season to go along with a $325,000 roster bonus.

Last year, DeCastro appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 18 guard out of 78 qualifying players.
