Steelers Promoting QB/WR Tyler Murphy To Active Roster

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Steelers are QB/WR Tyler Murphy to their active roster on Saturday.

  • La Canfora notes that Murphy actually took reps at quarterback for the scout team this week and will be insurance behind Landry Jones in Week 7.

This further indicates that Ben Roethlisberger will be inactive for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs. However, La Canfora admits that Big Ben could still declare himself fit to play.

Murphy, 23, signed on with the Steelers back in as an undrafted free agent out of Boston College. He’s in the first year of his four-year, $1.579 million rookie contract included a $4,500 signing bonus.

Murphy was waived a month ago to make room for RB Le’Veon Bell, who has been reinstated from his suspension, but was later added to the team’s practice squad.

This season, Murphy has appeared in two games and caught one pass for 16 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
