Steelers Re-Sign TE David Johnson

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Thursday that they’ve re-signed TE David Johnson.

“I always considered myself a Steeler,” said Johnson. “I never wanted to leave. I hope I can finish my career here.

“It’s a special place. It’s always been like home to me, being with the coaches, the guys, the organization. It’s a great place to be. The only place I want to play.”

Johnson, 29, is a former seventh-round pick of the Steelers back in 2009. He played out his rookie contract with the Steelers before signing on with the Chargers as an unrestricted free agent back in March of 2014.

After two years in San Diego, Johnson returned to the Steelers on a one-year deal last year.

In 2016, Johnson appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers and caught seven passes for 80 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 33 tight end out of 63 qualifying players.
