Steelers Waive QB Zach Mettenberger

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they’ve released backup QB Zach Mettenberger on Monday.

This comes after the Steelers drafted Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs a few days ago, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that Mettenberger is the odd-man-out in Pittsburgh.

Mettenberger, 25, is a former sixth-round pick of the Titans back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.345 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.

The Titans cut him loose back in May of last year and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Chargers. San Diego elected to cut Mettenberger loose coming out of the preseason and he was later claimed by the Steelers.

In 2015, Mettenberger appeared in seven games and threw for 935 yards while completing 60.8 percent of his passes to go along with four touchdowns and seven interceptions.
