Steelers Restructure Ben Roethlisbergers’ Contract

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers have restructured QB Ben Roethlisberger‘s contract in attempt to free up more cap space.

Brian McIntyre of Macsfootballblog.com mentions that Roethlisberger’s 2012 salary has been reduced from $11.6 million down to only $900,000. The difference of $10.7 million will then be converted into a signing bonus that will paid over the course of four years. The good  news here is that the Steelers have eliminated $8 million in cap obligations with this move alone.

It’s worth noting that he’ll count $19.595 million against next years cap which could create even more problems in 2013.

This should go along way in helping them retain WR Mike Wallace.
