Steelers Rumors: Ike Taylor & Willie Colon

Heading into the offseason CB Ike Taylor and OT Willie Colon were considered to be two of teams highest priorities behind only LB Lamarr Woodley, who has already been given the franchise tag. Here’s a look at some of the latest rumors that are surround Taylor and Colon.

Ike Taylor

John Harris of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review mentions that the team is considering using their transition tag on him which would give them the ability to match any offer that he would receive on the open market but wouldn’t give them any draft compensation for losing him. The transition tag also pays a player the average of the top ten players at the position.

There’s a chance that the new CBA could eliminate the transition tag which in turn may nullify any of the tags that had been given out.

Willie Colon

Colon’s agent told Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that there is a “little chance” that Willie could be back in Pittsburgh come next season which isn’t the most positive sign for the teams 2011 offensive line. While this could be just an attempt by Colon’s agent to try to increase his players value, Pittsburgh has indicated that they aren’t willing to pay him the money that he’s currently seeking.

Colon will be coming off of a torn Achilles tendon which is a pretty serious injury but at tackle it is as hampering of an issue as it would be if he played running back or wide receiver. He’ll be 28 come next year and he has already shown that he can be a valuable contributer to the teams offensive line, a group that will be in need of an upgrade next season. If it’s money he’s after, Pittsburgh will most likely not be the city that he’s playing in once the season is underway.
