Steelers Sign TE Michael Cooper, Release TE Jake Phillips

According to Mark Kaboly, the Steelers signed TE Michael Cooper and released TE Jake Phillips in a corresponding roster move.

Cooper, 23, wound up signing on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Indiana. Unfortunately, Washington elected to waive him back in June.

During his college career at Indiana, Cooper recorded 19 receptions for 230 yards receiving (12.1 YPC) and two touchdowns over the course of two years.

Phillips, 22, is an undrafted free agent out of UNLV and signed on with Pittsburgh just two days  prior to being released. This was his first opportunity with an NFL team.

During his four years at UNLV, Phillips accumulated 55 receptions for 526 yards (9.7 YPC) and three touchdowns.
