Steelers Sign WR Darrius Heyward-Bey

Burt Lauten announced via his Twitter account that the Steelers have signed veteran WR Darrius Heyward-Bey to a one-year contract.

  • Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Tuesday that Heyward-Bey was visiting with the Steelers on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh could use some help at receiver now that they have lost Emmanuel Sanders to the Broncos, but it’s hard to imagine Heyward-Bey being an adequate replacement.

Heyward-Bey, 27, signed a one-year contract worth up to $3 million with the Colts last year after he was released by the Raiders. He would go on to appear in all 16 games for the Colts and total 23 receptions for 309 yards receiving and one touchdown.

Overall, he was a large disappointment for the Colts after they lost Reggie Wayne for the season and were really in need of help receiver help heading into the post season.

Pro Football Focus has Heyward-Bey rated as the No. 107 receiver in the league out of 111 qualifying players.
