Steelers Signing QB Tajh Boyd

Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports reports that the Steelers have agreed to terms with QB Tajh Boyd on a one-year contract.

Boyd worked out for the Lions last month, but there hasn’t been a lot of buzz surrounding him since the visit with Detroit.

Boyd was taken the sixth round of this year’s NFL draft by the New York Jets. However, he was unable to make the team’s final 53-man roster and was released just before the start of the season.

He later signed a contract with the Florida Blacktips of the FXFL.

Since being released by the Jets, Boyd has worked out for Bills, Giants, and Redskins, but never received an offer from these teams.

During his four-year career at Clemson, Boyd throw for 11,904 yards and completed 64.3 percent of his passes to go along with 107 touchdowns and 39 interceptions.

  1. they need to draft that Chris Bonner kid out of pueblo. has all the tools, size, strength, good decision making– would make a nice understudy for Ben. Gradkowski is a fine #2 for now and Ben is a bona fide top 5 qb. why waste the time on this dude.

  2. this guy couldn’t get a look with the NYJ or lions? and the steelers sign him? wow, how about find a REAL QB prospect BEFORE we need him???

  3. Dan “Ja Rule” Rooney uses his front to “make a statement” about the color of NFL inequity as a cover for his cheapness. He’s wet-dreaming about a black QB to go with Coach “It IsWhat It Is” Doofus because he doesn’t care about fans or wins, just getting by as cheap as possible. he knows that season ticket and merch sales of Steelers gear are all that matter.

  4. WOW!! Just what we needed,a freakin quarterback that couldn`t even get interest from the skins! How about signing Ben already and going after some players we actually need! Like always the Steelers are going to sit back and watch all the GOOD players sign with other teams when we are picking up scrap quarterbacks! Look at Cam Thomas for example. Why is he still even on the team? Why did we sign him in the first place? Same crap again this year!

    • I believe you’re right, Eric. Ben’s a great QB, so why not get him a couple of OL-men who will protect him so he can throw? And while we’re at it, why not get a couple more guys who can actually catch the ball? How about some who can actually jump and make spectacular catches? Like Lynn Swann did? And how about getting someone who can actually catch the kick and tun it back for a TD?

But no. Like always, they are taking the cheapest route and signing players nobody else wants for less money. Blue-light specials we do not need!

    • Wait…So you’re comfortable with Landry Jones as Ben’s possible replacement ? Low risk/high reward signing. The kid was in the running for the Heisman for a while for god’s sake.

  5. Now if they’d only cut the wasted draft pick named Landry Jones ! Should have drafted Boyd when he came out and cut Jones then
