Steelers Reiterate That WR Mike Wallace Will Not Be Traded At Any Point

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Steelers have no plans whatsoever to trade WR Mike Wallaceat any point this season.”

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is reportedly “upset” and “no longer supportive” of Wallace’s and his decision to hold out. They even feel that they’ve been pretty fair in regards to the situation, considering that they could have docked Wallace’s restricted tender, but have still yet to do so.

Obviously, the kind of money that Wallace is seeking will make his restricted tender seem like pocket change, so the Steelers efforts aren’t much of a consolation to a player who’s in line for a huge contract.

We have Wallace listed as the No. 6 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

ESPN’s Bob Holtzman reports that a source close to Pittsburgh Steelers has informed him that he believes WR Mike Wallace will “eventually be in camp.

“(The source) said that there’s a lot of healing that needs to be done — for both sides,” adds Holtzman. “… I’m also told, though, that it may be awhile before Wallace shows up here because the Steelers, about ten days ago, signed Antonio Brown to a long, six-year contract extension worth $40-something million, and I’m told ‘that did not sit very well’ with Wallace.

It’s not surprising to hear that Wallace will eventually join his teammates before the start of the season. The fact that he still needs another year of NFL experience to become an unrestricted free agent, prevents him for sitting out the whole season. Their relationship may need some mending, but it’s still unlikely that the Steelers will be able to lock him up as well.

The unresolved saga continues. Michael Bean at Sports Radio Interviews says there’s still no contact between the Pittsburgh Steelers and WR Mike Wallace, but the Steelers want him in camp, and Wallace wants to be in a Steelers uniform long-term. This looks to be drawn out throughout the pre-season. Stay posted to NFLTR for the latest.

The Mike Wallace saga continued Thursday with reports that the Steelers won’t deal the wideout. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on SportsCenter Thursday that it is unlikely that the steelers will shop unsigned restricted free agent Mike Wallace for a trade.

The Steelers have been very clear that they’re not looking to trade Mike Wallace,” said Schefter. “When the Steelers say they’re not gonna trade him, you can believe them.

It is clear that this will drag deep into training camp. With the signing of Antonio Brown, Wallace’s only option now is to take the restricted tender and look for a new contract next year. If Wallace declines to sign his tender before week 6, he will lose an accumulated year, meaning he will be a restricted free agent once again.
