Steelers Waive CB Justin Gilbert

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Monday that they’ve placed CB Justin Gilbert on waivers.

Gilbert, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2014. The Browns elected to trade Gilbert to the Steelers at the start of the 2016 season in return for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Gilbert is entering the final year of his four-year, $12.83 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $970,023 in 2017. His contract includes a fifth-year option, but there’s almost no chance of anyone picking this up, given that he hasn’t come close to living up to his draft status.

In 2016, Gilbert appeared in 12 games for the Browns and recorded three tackles and no interceptions. He also contributed 68 kick-return yards last year.
